Compressed Air Rethink

– use technology matching your needs!

During these energy conscious times we often see facilities using a range of low-cost air nozzles connected to their compressed air supply to dry, blow-off and cool their products. These nozzles range from specialist designed parts to DIY arrangements. In the worst scenario open pipes are used. These quick solutions are used because they are low cost and do not need any specialist knowledge to complete.

Poor Compressed Air Setup

What is often overlooked however is the amount of energy these solutions consume and the costs invovled. As published by a leading compressor supplier a single 3mm (1/8“) diameter hole consumes energy costing approximately £3,260.00 GBP (€3,800.00 EURO) per year. Considering that most systems include multiple nozzles it is easy to see how the energy bill soon mounts up.

Interesting Facts:

  • "Of the total energy supplied to a compressor, as little as 8-10% may be converted into useful energy that can do work at the point of use. This makes it a very expensive for of energy" – Carbon Trust
  •
  • "Compressed air is generated using electricity. Moreover, the fact is that its generation is equivalent to about 10% of industry’s total electricity usage, rising to 30% in some sectors, highlights why companies have compelling reasons to investigate the potential for energy saving in this area" – Leading manufacturer of motor control and power conversion technologies
  •
  • "70% of the generated compressed air is used in air blow applications. Top Ten Tip No.6 STOP AIR BLOW WHEN NOT NEEDED." – Energy Saving Guide from a Leading Pneumatics company
  •
  • Accidental Leak vrs. Controlled Leak (via a nozzle) – Whats the difference? None – they both consume the same energy and should equally be avoided

The Alternative

Bottled Water Air Knife Dryer

Nearly all drying, blow-off and cooling applications do NOT need an air supply at compressed air pressure levels eg.7 bar. The success of the system is achieved by good rates of air flow and air velocity and in this area our blower systems actually outperform compressed air solutions. The air flow levels seen in blower systems cannot be matched and when combining them with the impressive exit air velocities from our range of Air Knives, which sometimes reach 200m/sec, our systems become the obvious choice considering energy efficiency and results achieved.
